The ANGLO-JAPANESE ALLIANCE was concluded for five years and provided for the independence of China and Korea and the recognition of Japan's special interests in Korea; the two powers each agreed to maintain neutrality in the event of wars with third powers and to join with the other in the event of a larger war.  1
