The first Greek bands appeared in central Macedonia, aided by a society in Athens and, secretly, by the Greek government. These bands added to continued skirmishes between pro-Serb and pro-Bulgarian rebels to hinder efforts at a customs union between Bulgaria and Serbia.  1
 
1912–13
 
As a result of the Balkan Wars (See Oct. 18), Macedonia was split mainly between Serbia and Greece, but rightful boundaries remained a contentious issue.  2
