Bulgaria dissolved all Macedonian organizations in its territory and arrested the leaders.  1

Fearing a missed opportunity if they waited, IMRO sponsored the Ilinden-Preobrazhensko rising. Like the Supreme Committee's efforts, it ended in Oct. with little result in Macedonia itself.  2
The heightened tensions, including the possibility of war between the Ottoman Empire and Bulgaria, spurred the European great powers to introduce reform through the Mürzsteg reform program. The empire was forced to redraw internal boundaries in an effort to provide more cultural homogeneity within administrative units.  3
