Unity of the socialists was achieved through the Parti socialiste section française de l'Internationale ouvrière (SFIO).  1

Law of separation of church and state, proposed by Aristide Briand, was promulgated. It guaranteed complete liberty of conscience, suppressed all connections between church and state, and allocated all church property to private corporations established for this purpose. This law ended the relationship between the state and the Catholic Church, as well as the state and Protestant and Jewish faiths, that had been established during the 19th century.  2
