The Sakalava kingdom of Iboina reached height under Andrianinevenarivo.  2

Iboina began decline under Queen Ravahiny, partly under pressure of Muslim claims to the throne.  3
 
1778–1800
 
Andrianampoinimerina reunited Merina kingdom. He centralized power, fortified the borders with settlers, acquired firearms, and pursued aggressive diplomacy. Under his rule, Merina ceased to pay tribute to Sakalava. (See Madagascar)  4
