Measures to curb the illegal Angolan diamond trade were taken by Angola's government, aiming to use federal agencies to oversee legal trade. On Sept. 22 and 25 Angolan forces in a major victory won back military bases from the rebel UNITA forces in Lunda Norte and Lunda Sul. These were two of the major diamond-mining areas that had been funding UNITA armed conflicts and the various activities of Jonas Savimbi. | 1 |
