In a meeting between U.S. president Richard Nixon and Pres. Pak, Nixon explained the new U.S. policy of letting friendly nations solve their own problems supported by U.S. economic and military aid but without the involvement of U.S. forces.  1
 
Sept. 13
 
The South Korean National Assembly met in a secret session called by the DRP and passed an amendment permitting Pak to stand for a third term. This amendment was approved by popular referendum (Oct. 17).  2
