Conflicts with Turkey resumed over the issue of missile deployment plans and the increased military capability of Cyprus because of its surface-to-air missile purchases from Russia. Turkey considered further arming its territory in northern Cyprus.  1

Peace accords were signed between Turkey and Greece two days after the nations agreed on plans for a pipeline that would supply fresh water to Turkish and Greek areas on Cyprus.  2
