Bolivian and Brazilian leaders inaugurated a natural gas pipeline between Rio Grande, Bolivia and São Paulo, Brazil. The pipeline was 1,830 miles long and was expected to net $1.6 billion for Bolivia over a period of twenty years.  1
 
2000, April 26
 
A strike by the Workers Confederation and a plan for increased water rates incited riots throughout Bolivia. The government of former military dictator and current president Banzer quickly suppressed the insurrections.  2
