The new constitution, approved by the assembly, confirmed Perón's policies of land reform and nationalization of industries, and made the president eligible for reelection. Although democratic institutions remained in place, there was a growing tendency toward repression of dissidents.  1
 
1951, April 13
 
In an effort to stamp out public criticism of his regime, Perón suppressed the newspaper La Prensa.  2
 
Nov. 11
 
In spite of a deteriorating economy, Pres. Perón won another six-year term of office, garnering 67 percent of the vote.  3
