The Tajik Supreme Court banned four opposition parties, the Democratic Party, Lale Badakshon, the Nazdate Islamiye Tajikistan (Islamic Renaissance Party of Tajikistan), and the Rastokhez People's Front (Rebirth). The court accused the parties of fomenting civil war, illegally forming militias, and killing or kidnapping legislators.  1

Tajikistan announced that it would no longer accept Soviet era rubles but would accept Russian ones, making it the only former Soviet state to share the Russian ruble.  2
 
Nov. 6
 
Tajikistan held its first elections, voting in President Imamali Rakhmonov and approving a new constitution.  3
