The Union of Democratic Forces defeated the Bulgarian Socialist Party by a margin of 1 percent of the vote in the second free election since 1989. Following the party's victory, UDF leader Filip Dimitrov formed the first noncommunist cabinet and took office on Nov. 8.  1
 
1992, April 9
 
Despite the opposition of the Socialists, the government adopted a decree restoring private ownership of land and property that had been nationalized during 1947 to 1962.  2
 
Dec. 30
 
The formation of a new government of nonparty figures, with the economist Lyuben Berov as prime minister, ended a two-month-long governmental crisis following the collapse of the UDF government.  3
