Communist deputy premier Traicho Kostov was arrested and charged with ideological deviation and treason. Together with ten associates, he was later found guilty; he was executed on Dec. 16.  3

Premier Dimitrov, who earlier had gone to Russia for medical treatment, died in Moscow. He was succeeded by Vassil Kolarov.  4
