Following a shakeup of the top Communist leadership, the government resigned. The next day, parliament reelected István Dobi to the presidency and Imre Nagy to the vice presidency. On July 4 Prime Minister Rákosi resigned, as a concession to the farmers and consumers, to make way for the new premier, Imre Nagy. | 3 |
