The Czechoslovak and Hungarian governments agreed that ethnic Slovaks from Hungary and ethnic Hungarians from Czechoslovakia who volunteered to return to their native countries would be exchanged in equal numbers.  1

Elections to the National Assembly gave the Communists 2.7 million of the total 7.1 million votes and 114 out of 300 seats. As a result, Communist leader Klement Gottwald formed a new coalition cabinet.  2
