The arrival of Senegalese troops in Beirut to reinforce the French. The deployment of these reinforcements roused fears among Lebanese that France was bent on re-establishing the mandate. Violence ensued between French troops and Lebanese protesters. The staunch Lebanese resistance soon persuaded the French government to evacuate its forces. | 1 |
