Parliament granted the president decree powers for a period of three years, and these were later extended.  1

An agreement with the city government of Danzig (which had recently fallen under National Socialist control) assured the Poles in Danzig fair treatment while guaranteeing to Danzig a certain percentage of Poland's seaborne trade. By this time the new Polish port of Gdynia (constructed after 1920 because of the constant friction between Poland and Danzig) had already outstripped its older German neighbor as a trade center.  3
