The Polish government sent a stiff ultimatum to Lithuania demanding reopening of the frontier and regularization of relations. After a short crisis the Lithuanian government yielded (March 17).  2

The elections in Memel brought a vote of more than 90 percent for the National Socialists. In view of the resurgent power of Germany, the Lithuanian government was obliged to leave the Nazis practically a free hand in Memel.  3
