The Dutch responded to raids on Jewish neighborhoods with a strike organized by the Communist party. The Nazis responded with a declaration of martial law on March 8.  1
 
1942
 
The deportation of Jews began in the Netherlands first with foreign Jews and then Dutch Jews. In the summer the Catholic and Protestant Dutch Reformed churches organized a joint public denunciation, sparking Nazi threats of reprisals. When the Catholics proceeded alone with denunciations, the Nazis began to deport Jews who had converted to Catholicism too.  2

A consultative board for the affairs of the Netherlands East Indies was set up in London to assist the minister for the colonies of the Netherlands government in exile.  3
