Tenant League conference in Dublin. The M.P.'s present adopted a policy of independent opposition to any government that failed to support the Tenant League.  2

Independent Irish Party formed at a meeting of Liberal Irish M.P.'s; it agreed to combine the concerns of the Tenant League and the Catholic Defense Association and refuse to support any government that did not commit itself to such a program. During the party's short-lived success, it was able to control the balance within Parliament. However, it failed as a result of attrition of leadership, lack of clarity about how its policy should be translated into action, and gradual economic improvement in Irish agriculture.  3
