The Great Migration to Massachusetts Bay Colony. During these years some 16,000 settlers arrived from England.  1
 
1633
 
Closely associated with the arrival of Europeans, smallpox epidemic killed hundreds of Indians.  2
 
1635
 
Council for New England gave up its charter and the king demanded also the charter of the Massachusetts Bay Colony, because of Archbishop Laud's dislike of the Puritan Commonwealth. The king was unsuccessful.  3
 
1637
 
Puritans attacked Pequot village, massacred nearly 500 men, women, and children, and sold many of the survivors into slavery.  4
 
1637–39
