The Treaty of San Ildefonso assigned Colonia and disputed Paraguayan territory to Spain.  1
 
1779–83
 
Spain intervened in American War of Independence (See June). Spanish forces captured Mobile and Pensacola, overran Bahamas, and blocked British attempts to control the Mississippi. By the Treaty of Versailles (1783), Spain recovered Florida and relinquished the Bahamas.  2

By the Treaty of Basel Spain relinquished the eastern two-thirds of Española to France.  3
 
1797
 
Trinidad was occupied by British and ceded to them by the Treaty of Amiens (1802).  4
 
1800
 
France under the consulate forced Spain to return Louisiana.  5
 
1801
 
Portuguese occupied mission territories in Paraguay, but subsequent accords gave Spain Colonia and Uruguay, while Portugal secured Rio Grande do Sul.  6
