The French resumed the offensive in the west and defeated Ferdinand of Brunswick at Bergen, near Frankfurt (April 13). The Russians once again advanced into Germany and defeated the Prussians at Kay (July 23). Ferdinand defeated the French at Minden (Aug. 1). Frederick was unable to prevent their union with the Austrians and suffered a major reverse in the BATTLE OF KUNERSDORF (Aug. 12). The Austrians thereupon captured Dresden on Nov. 20.  1
 
1760, June 23
 
The Prussians, under Fouqué, were defeated and captured by the Austrians in the battle of Landshut, but on Aug. 15, Frederick's victory over Laudon in the Battle of Liegnitz (Pfaffendorf) enabled him to prevent the union of the Austrians and Russians.  2

The Russians, under Tottleben, nevertheless surprised and burned Berlin.  3
