Pres. Taylor, the Liberian government, and Gambia were implicated in a UN Security Council report that recommended sanctions against various diamond-trading nations for supplying millions of dollars through illegal diamond exchanges with Sierra Leone and for supplying the Revolutionary United Front (RUF) of that nation with military training, weapons, and an area to stage attacks. Other countries potentially involved in the diamonds-for-arms trading were Uganda, Central African Republic, Ghana, Namibia, Republic of Congo, Mali, and Zambia.  1
