No endorsed a new relationship with North Korea, offering talks that might reunite the two countries.  3
 
Summer
 
South Korea hosted the Summer Olympic Games in Seoul, a source of great pride for the regime and many Koreans. It forced the government to open its doors to the international media and accordingly to introduce certain liberalizing reforms.  4
