Martial law was again proclaimed in Seoul, following a long series of student demonstrations and charges of corruption in government. A number of ministers were obliged to resign.  1
 
1965, April 13–17
 
Student protests, supported by the opposition in the National Assembly, erupted against the government policy of normalizing relations with Japan. Protests by the opposition became chronic and were matched by scenes of violence in Parliament.  2
 
June 22
 
Diplomatic relations with Japan were restored, and Japan promised extensive economic aid.  3
 
Aug. 26
 
Martial law was again proclaimed. Hundreds were arrested, and the universities were occupied by the police.  4
 
Sept. 25
