In the ranks of the South Korean army, dissatisfaction with the corruption among officers led Kim Chong-p'il (b. 1926) to persuade Chang Myn to institute reforms; but instead, Kim was cashiered.  1

In South Korea, an anti-Communist military junta, led by Kim and Maj. Gen. Pak Chng-hi (Park Chung Hee, 1917–79), overthrew the government and arrested Pres. Yun Po-sn.  2
 
June 6
 
The military junta decreed an absolute military dictatorship with power concentrated in the hands of a few officers.  3
 
July 3
