The U.S. proposed an inquiry into Chinese Communist accusations that U.S. forces were using germ warfare in North Korea. On March 14, the Soviets repeated the charges but failed to acknowledge an offer by the International Red Cross to investigate.  1

The Korean armistice talks at staff-officer level recessed for six days as each side moved to break the deadlock on the question of prisoner exchange.  2

Gen. Mark W. Clark was appointed to succeed Gen. Ridgway as UN commander.  3

The South Korean assembly, boycotted by an aroused opposition, reelected Pres. Rhee for an indefinite term.  4
