The former prime minister, Nawaz Sharif, was sentenced to two life imprisonment terms for hijacking and terrorism. Sharif had tried to prevent a commercial airliner, containing Gen. Musharraf and 200 other passengers, from landing in Pakistan. This action had precipitated the 1999 military coup. | 1 |
