A trade block, existing since 1949, was broken when India and Pakistan reached agreement on a full trade pact.  1

After months of famine, the Indian Socialist Party staged a giant demonstration in Delhi to protest the government's failure to solve the food and housing problems.  2

Prime Minister Nehru lodged a formal complaint against Pakistan with the UN Security Council. He charged repeated violations of the cease-fire agreement in Kashmir.  3

The Colombo Plan to aid India, Pakistan, Ceylon, Sarawak, and Borneo was presented to the British Commonwealth Parliament. It envisaged £8 billion over six years, beginning in 1951. Colombo Plan nations, adding new members, continued Asian economic development planning.  4
