In Cairo the members of the Arab League held an emergency summit to discuss recent Israeli-Palestinian violence. Of the 22 league members present, 21 signed an accord that accused Israel of committing atrocities against the Palestinians in the renewed conflict. The agreement also installed a trade boycott against Israel and established a $1 billion fund to help Palestinians who were injured or killed in the confrontations. | 1 |

The National Democratic Party (NDP) won 388 out of 444 seats in legislative elections. Though diminishing his majority, this maintained Pres. Mubarak's grip on governmental power inasmuch as his party retained a two-thirds majority in the Parliament. | 2 |
