Dismissal of GEN. JOHN GLUBB, commander of the Arab Legion. The move was an attempt to pacify opposition groups that had staged violent demonstrations (Jan. 1956).  2

Termination of the Anglo-Jordanian treaty.  3

Dismissal of the government (elected in Oct. 1956) of Sulayman al-Nablusi, a prominent opposition figure. Political parties were outlawed, and the new government decreed martial law. King Husayn quickly conducted a purge of pro-Egyptian and pro-Syrian officers from the army.  4
