Turkey's highest court ruled that the religion-based Welfare Party violated the Turkish constitution, which upholds a strictly secular state. The Welfare Party, dissolved on Feb. 23, was one of Turkey's oldest Islamic groups.  1

The European Union (EU) rejected Turkey's application for inclusion in the organization (See Dec. 10).  2

Turkey and Syria signed an agreement to halt Syrian military aid to Kurdish rebels in Turkey.  3
