In Anguilla, which was temporarily administered by a British official, the British under secretary for foreign and Commonwealth affairs was driven out while trying to solve the question of the island's status. British paratroopers and police forces then took over. Ronald Webster was deposed as acting president.  1
 
1970, Feb. 23
 
Guyana was proclaimed a cooperative republic within the British Commonwealth by Prime Minister Burnham.  2
 
April 21–24
 
An attempted rebellion in Trinidad and Tobago was defeated. All political activities were then banned.  3
 
Nov. 24
 
When the ban on political activity was lifted in Trinidad and Tobago, black militancy was renewed.  4
