After presidential elections produced no clear victor, Hugo Banzer made a deal to allow Jaime Paz Zamora of the Movement of the Revolutionary Left (MIR) to assume the presidency. Paz Zamora maintained neoliberal policies, closing down public enterprises.  2

The government reached an agreement with Indian groups to stop deforestation in indigenous areas, following a six-week, 400-mile march by 500 protesters.  3
 
1992, June 10
 
Paz Zamora privatized 66 state-owned companies.  4
