President Richard Nixon visited Moscow, signing the first SALT anti–ballistic missile treaty, an interim agreement on offensive missiles, and establishing a U.S.-USSR Commercial Commission.  1

Brezhnev visited the United States, signing agreements on the prevention of nuclear war and the promotion of trade. He made a televised speech to the American people during his visit.  2
 
June 27–July 3
