The long-awaited ten-mile bridge and tunnel connecting Sweden and Denmark was opened; it linked Copenhagen, Denmark with Malmö, Sweden.  1

Danes voted in a national referendum not to join the euro currency zone. Scorned by both right-wing nationalists and liberal Socialists, the single European currency received very limited support from the Danish people. This vote marked the first time that any EU member nation had directly consulted its electorate at large to consider the euro.  2
