The Statute of Limitations, which fixed July 1965 as the final date for the trials of Nazi war criminals, was extended to Dec. 31, 1969, in view of the large number of cases still to be tried.  1

The West German Bundestag held a one-day session in West Berlin, despite East German and Soviet protests and harassment.  2
 
Sept
 
The national elections once again proved a victory for the Christian Democrats and the Christian Social Union (CSU), despite a substantial gain by the Social Democrats. Ludwig Erhard remained chancellor, and a new coalition of the Christian Democrats and the Free Democrats assumed power.  3
