In a national referendum, Swiss voters supported a proposal to further restrict the influx of foreign refugees seeking asylum in mountain-protected Switzerland.  1

In elections for the National Council, the nativist Swiss People's Party had the largest total vote and won the second-largest number of seats, which threatened to destabilize Switzerland's four-party ruling coalition. The party's campaign platform opposed immigration and advocated European isolationism.  2
