The French and Italian Communist Parties, the two largest ones in Europe, issued a joint statement asserting that the road to power was through their democratic systems and declaring their opposition to “all foreign interference,” specifically by “American imperialism” and by implication by the Soviet Union.  1

The seventh national economic plan, covering the years 1976–80, emphasized the development of new technologies, electronics, information systems, robotics, biomedical products, and energy-saving equipment.  2

At its twenty-second congress, the French Communist Party renounced the notion of the “dictatorship of the proletariat.”  3
