Meeting of the Warsaw Pact consultative committee in Prague. It called for immediate agreement among the great powers to prohibit the placement of nuclear weapons in Germany. A new East German army was to be added to Koniev's command.  1

“Three Wise Men,” a subcommittee of NATO, were appointed to “advise the Council on ways and means to improve and extend NATO co-operation in non-military fields and to develop greater unity within the Atlantic Community.” The members were Lester Pearson, Canadian secretary of state for external affairs, Gaetano Martino, the Italian foreign minister, and Halvard Lange, the Norwegian foreign minister.  3

In his first official visit to a Soviet satellite since 1948, President Tito journeyed to Romania for talks with Romanian leaders, concluding agreements (June 26) for closer Yugoslav-Romanian ties.  4
