French suppression of tribal unrest in the interior. This campaign marked the final stage of the French conquest of Morocco and gave the colonial authorities complete control over the interior.  1

Opening of the Moroccan-Tunisian Railway, which connected all of French North Africa. The French administration valued the railway for its efficiency in transporting troops from one end of the Maghrib to the other.  2

Spanish troops under Gen. Francisco Franco revolted and seized the city of Melilla, opening the Spanish civil war.  3
 
1937, March 18
 
Outlawing of the National Action Bloc, which had begun recruitment among Muslim workers.  4
