Deaths of Ahmad Shawqi (b. 1869) and Hafiz Ibrahim (b. 1871), the two leading practitioners of the neoclassical style in poetry. Poets of this school combined classical forms (e.g., in meter, rhyme, and language) and contemporary subjects.  1

Meeting of the Congress of Arab Music in Cairo, attended by leading musicians and musicologists from the Arab world as well as Turkey and Europe. The congress marked the first organized effort in the region to promote the traditional musical heritage by codifying the theory, establishing a standard notation system, and encouraging musical research and education.  3
