Founding of the Young Men's Muslim Association by Abd al-Hamid Sa‘id. The organization, modeled on the YMCA, was formed in part to counter Christian missionary activity.  1
Production of Layla, the first full-length film in the Arab world. The first talking movie appeared in 1932. The first Arab movie studio, Studio Misr, was founded in 1934, and Egypt immediately assumed cinematic leadership of the Arab world.  2

Death of SA‘D ZAGHLUL, the leader of the delegation (wafd) that first tried to make Egypt's case for independence at Versailles and then undertook negotiations with the British government. Upon independence, Zaghlul emerged as undisputed leader of the Wafd Party and, following elections, became Egypt's first prime minister. By the end of his career, he had become the living symbol of the Egyptian independence movement and its aspirations. His death left a political vacuum that no succeeding politician was able to fill and further weakened an already divided national leadership.  4
