Cárdenas oversaw the creation of the Party of the Mexican Revolution (PRM), which had representation from the military, agrarian groups, labor, and popular movements. This reflected Cárdenas's move away from more radical politics, and toward creating a broad-based political process in Mexico. With this in mind, Cárdenas then threw his support behind Manuel Avila Camacho, a Conservative Catholic, for the 1940 election.  1

Avila Camacho was elected president of Mexico. His ascension in December marked a move by the revolutionary party to the right.  2
 
1942, May 22
 
Mexico declared war on Germany, Italy, and Japan.  3
 
Nov. 19
