Pro-APRA peasants took control of the northern city of Trujillo for four days, killing a number of captured military personnel. After their defeat by the military, thousands were taken prisoner and massacred in the military retaliation. This incident created long-standing enmity between APRA and the armed forces.  1

Threat of war with Colombia over the disputed territory of Leticia. Peru took a strong line and prepared for war, though accepting proffered mediation of the League. The question was finally settled by agreement on Nov. 2, 1934.  2
