1920, March

Hoping for a clear majority, Stamboliski held new elections, which, after invalidating a number of mandates, gave him a majority of four. With a completely Agrarian cabinet, Stamboliski began his reforms aimed at making Bulgaria a “model agricultural state.” These included restricting bureaucracy, reducing government pensions, and altering the tax system to aid peasants. Most of these reforms were aborted when he fell from power. He was, however, able to pass important measures covering land reform, the introduction of labor service, and the improvement of education on the village level.  1

Dec. 16
