Germany attacked Greece.  1

April 23

The Greek army surrendered unconditionally to the Germans and Italians. A government in exile was formed and fled to London with King George. The British forces that had been landed in Greece to aid in its defense were withdrawn on May 1.  2
Resistance to the Germans was strong but hindered by ideological disputes between groups. Despite a National Bands agreement negotiated in 1943 attempting to set up a common front, relations among the resistance groups remained hostile throughout the war, setting the stage for the Greek civil war.  3
