U.S. Congress voted to annex Texas (See 1845, March 1). Pres. James K. Polk unilaterally defined the borders of Texas. U.S. troops were deployed.  3

Herrera was deposed by Gen. Manuel Paredes.  4

MEXICAN-AMERICAN WAR (See 1846–48). The war began east of the Rio Grande. U.S. troops seized California and Monterrey.  5
 
July
