THE THIRD BURMESE WAR. The British (Oct. 22) sent an ultimatum demanding that Thibaw receive a British envoy and that his interference with trade be stopped; furthermore, it stated that in the future the foreign relations of Burma would be conducted in accordance with the advice of the Indian government. On the rejection of this ultimatum, a British steamer expedition occupied Mandalay (Nov. 28). Thibaw surrendered and was sent to India. This brought to an end the Konbaung dynasty and Burma's independence.  1
